Concrete Moisture Testing
Concrete Moisture Testing
What is a Concrete Moisture Inspection?
Testing concrete for excessive moisture is a common requirement in the construction industry, especially where flooring or other impermeable surfaces are to be introduced. There are several moisture test methods that are available, but there isn’t a single test that reveals everything that should be considered. The only way to know for sure if flooring can be installed or a coating applied is to test the area.
The certified testing professionals in Water Restoration Technology (WRT) and Applied Structural Drying (ASD), at DynoDry Roofing & Structural Drying, are equipped with the most technically-advanced tools in the industry for moisture detection. Moreover, we have been trained to use these tools properly. We also follow the ASTM F2170 guidelines/procedures for determining relative humidity in concrete flooring.
Why is it important?
In mixing concrete, the right thermodynamic condition must exist so that slabs dry the right way and the extra water that is used to hydrate the cement upon mixture, would also evaporate. The speed of the drying process, as well as the strength of the dried cement, can be largely determined by three factors: vapor pressure inside the slab, vapor pressure in the air over the slab and vapor pressure and conditions below the slab. Since vapor pressure plays an important role, it is important to understand it, and the basic thing about vapor pressure is that it is affected by temperature.
Bubbles, delamination, and blisters in cemented floor coverings are the results of miscalculated vapor pressure. Sometimes, the pressure is unable to evaporate the excess moisture, then premature sealing is made, which causes the moisture to be trapped under the floor covering or sealer. Before sealing, the dryness of the cement should be checked to see if it has reached an acceptable equilibrium point. This is a difficult task but a crucial one.
What is the Process?
As mentioned, water plays a vital role in creating a perfect concrete and slab mixture. During the curing period, efforts are made to ensure that the water stays inside the mixture so that the concrete can properly hydrate. However, when the curing period ends, that water presence should be filtered out so that the cement can start drying out. If you mix concrete with a higher water-to-cement material ratio, you can expect that greater moisture is present. However, if your cement mixture is intended for air drying, then there must be lesser moisture. No matter what mixture, flooring, coating, and sealing must only be applied when the water vapor in the slab has reached an equilibrium. This will greatly ensure that no moisture is trapped which could cause problems in the future.
With the use of technically-advanced monitors, moisture-sensing meters and thermal-imaging cameras, we at DynoDry Roofing & Structural Drying, have the ability to not only locate the problem areas but also determine the source of the intrusion. The equipment we use and our years of experience in dealing with water damage in the Birmingham Metro area gives us the ability to see behind walls and other barriers where the naked eye cannot see. This allows us to develop an efficient and cost-effective action plan. Many times, from our proactive inspections, we are able to repair minor damage before it becomes a major structural and health problem.
Within 24-hours maximum, DynoDry Roofing & Structural Drying, will present you with an action plan proposal.

It is really hard to explain how more than pleased we were to meet and use the services of DynoDry. David, the owner, came and met my 90 year old Mother and discussed the process of reroofing her house after storm damage. There was damage from leaks and he had his subcontractors come out and explain the process and give us a price. They were so kind and hard working and totally trustworthy. We have owned many homes over the years and have never had such a good feeling when a project was complete, truly thankful to have had such an honorable man and a wonderful company to do the work we needed at a very fair price. We would recommend them highly, and have already done so.
They did a great job. Keep the site clean and keep us informed as progress was made.
David was very helpful as we navigated the insurance claim process and his team was fast and efficient with replacing our roof. We are very happy with the end result.
Very happy with the work by the guys at DynoDry. I worked 1-on-1 with David (the owner) through the entire process of replacing my roof and repairing some water damage inside and outside of my home. David is extremely knowledgeable about his trade and answered any possible question that I could throw at him. Highly recommended.
Fantastic work. Dynodry is a team of professionals, and they do what they say they will do. I needed some ventilation work done on my roof before closing on the sale of my home. David and his team got it done in time. Great communication, not notch delivery, and impecible work.
I highly recommend DynoDry for roofing and gutter work! David Grill is very honest and takes time to answer questions. He was very helpful to us and had several roofing samples for us to pick from. His workers were kind and professional and put up our roof quickly with no mess. There has been a lot of rain since the new roof was put on the house and we have seen no problems. Our roof looks great and we couldn't be happier!
We highly recommend DynoDry for roofing! David Grill is very thorough and answered all of our questions. He was very helpful to us and had several samples attached to our roof so that we could pick out the color that looks the best. His workers were kind and professional and put up our roof quickly with no mess. Our roof looks great and we couldn't be happier!
DynoDry was quick to come to help with a solution to a bad leak that we had with our 20+ year old roof after a bad storm recently. The time that David spent with us to explain different roofing options was very helpful, along with suggesting to us to go and see other previous projects so that we could feel confident in our style and color choice for our roof. His team was very efficient and caused no damage to our home or surroundings during the work. Our new roof is beautiful! His team also replaced our chimney and made it look like new. Very good attention to timelines, detail, sense of urgency, and they left a clean jobsite afterward with both projects. I will definitely call DynoDry again for any future needs and would be glad to refer friends to them. Thanks David!
DynoDry did a great job installing our new roof. They did exactly what they said they would do, when they said they would do it. Very professional!
David and DynoDry responded immediately when we had a high pressure water line break at my office. They jumped right on getting the water out and then dried everything over just a few days. This helped avoid the moisture turning to mold inside the walls and ceiling. They also handled the repairs very professionally after getting us dried out. I highly recommend them.
Not quiet finished as yet , but if last 5% is as good as the first, I will be well satisfied. On time, quality work ,and on budget. The owner , David, suggested an upgraded shingle that we like very well. Worth the extra cost.
We were very pleased with the competitive pricing and professional work. We have received many compliments on our new roof. The new ridge vents should also result in lower energy cost.
DynoDry provided mold removal in our master bath. We had black mold and could not complete our remodel until the mold and drying was completed. DynoDry did a great job in meeting our needs. They were prompt and extremely professional. I would recommend DynoDry to anyone needing their services.
Quick response time and friendly customer service. I highly recommend DynoDry for any water damage or mold remediation problems.
